02
15 minutes — Google Meet

Your Onboarding Call

This is where the real work happens. In a short, focused 15-minute video call, we'll discuss your daily routines, the tools you genuinely need, and build your configuration together.

What we'll cover:
  • Your daily routines — work, family, hobbies, logistics
  • Essential communication — who do you need to reach, and how?
  • Practical utilities — banking, maps, calendar, music
  • The apps you think you need (we'll push back on bad choices)
  • What's missing — the intentional absence of feeds, stores, distractions

This isn't a sales call. It's a conversation about how you want to live. We'll challenge you if we think an app doesn't serve you. This is the only time the door is open — we take it seriously.

03
Same day

We Build Your Configuration

After the call, we immediately configure your UTE based on what we discussed. Your exact app suite, your settings, your phone. We flash the firmware, apply the permanent lock, and prepare it for shipping.

04
Ships next business day

Your UTE Arrives

Your locked, configured UTE ships the next business day. When it arrives, it's yours — exactly as you built it. No setup required. No app store to tempt you. No decisions left to make. Just a phone that does what you need it to do, and nothing else.

A Thoughtful Conversation,
Not a Checkbox

The onboarding call is where permanence earns its place. We won't rush you. We won't let you make reactive decisions. This is a deliberate, focused conversation about what actually belongs in your life.

We'll walk through categories — communication, productivity, utilities, media — and build your configuration together. If you say "Instagram," we'll ask why. If you say "just in case," we'll push back. The goal isn't restriction. It's clarity.

By the end of the call, you'll have a phone designed around your real life. Not your aspirational life. Not someone else's life. Yours.

What You Can Expect

  • We start with your routines, not a list of apps
  • We'll ask "why?" more than once
  • We discuss what you're intentionally leaving out
  • We'll challenge you on apps that don't serve you
  • We make sure nothing essential is missing
  • We confirm the final configuration before we lock it

Frequently Asked

What if I need to add an app later?

You'll need to ship the device back to UTILITY, and we can add it for you. There's a $200 service fee per change — this covers shipping both ways and the reconfiguration. This isn't punitive. It's intentional friction. The lock works because it's inconvenient to undo. If you truly need the app, the fee is worth it. If you don't, the friction protects you from yourself.

What about app updates? Like banking apps?

Apps will auto-update when a new package is available. Your banking app, your messaging app, your maps — they all receive updates normally. What you can't do is add new apps, remove existing ones, or change the configuration. The apps you chose stay. The updates keep them working.

Can I really never change it?

Correct. The configuration is locked at the firmware level. You can't bypass it. You can't unlock it. You can't "developer mode" your way around it. The only way to change it is to send it back to us — and pay the service fee. That's the product. Permanence is the feature, not a bug.

What if I mess up the onboarding call?

You won't. We'll walk through everything with you, and we won't lock the configuration until you confirm it's right. If you realize during the call that something's missing, we adjust. If you think of something an hour after we hang up, email us before we ship — we'll add it. Once it ships, it's locked. But we give you every opportunity to get it right before that happens.

How long does shipping take?

We ship the next business day after your onboarding call. Standard shipping is 3-5 business days within the US. You'll receive tracking information as soon as your UTE ships.

What if the device breaks or malfunctions?

All UTEs come with a 2-year hardware warranty. If something breaks that's our fault — hardware failure, manufacturing defect, etc. — we'll repair or replace it at no cost. Your configuration stays intact. If you break it (drop it, water damage, etc.), standard repair fees apply, but we'll restore your exact configuration when we fix it.
